Local artists, individuals and designers needed for 2017 Street Pianos Cobourg
(Keys to our Town)
(Issued March 20, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. EST) –– The Town of Cobourg would like to remind interested candidates that the deadline is approaching for the 2017 Street Pianos Cobourg (Keys to our Town). The Town is looking for artists, individuals and designers within Northumberland County to submit their interest to paint and design one of three pianos for the summer campaign.
Each summer, donated pianos are painted by local artists and displayed in various locations throughout the downtown and waterfront area and passersby are encouraged to play. The concept was based on the “Play Me, I’m Yours” project by artists Luke Jerram, originating in Sheffield, England.
Once artists complete their work, the pianos are secured to their chosen location as a public art project aimed at providing a free avenue for individuals to express their musical talents in a public setting. Over 10,000 people played the ivories over the last two summers.
