Nominee Eligibility Criteria?

Nominees must:

• Be a Cobourg resident, organization, or business
• Have demonstrated accessibility contributions within the past three (3) years
• Not have accessibility-related responsibilities as part of their paid role, unless demonstrating exceptional contributions outside their formal job duties

Who is Not Eligible?

• Paid professionals
• Service Clubs. However, individual service club members are eligible.
• Employees of the Town of Cobourg are not eligible for nominations recognizing contributions made while performing their duties. 
• Please note, you cannot nominate a family member.

How Can I Nominate Someone?

To complete the application process, please submit the completed Accessibility Awards Program Application Form to the Municipal Clerk via email at clerk@cobourg.ca, or in person or by mail to 55 King Street West, Cobourg, ON K9A 2M2.

A well-prepared and thorough nomination helps ensure your nominee receives full consideration. Before submitting, please take note of the following tips:

• Review the award criteria carefully to ensure your nominee is eligible.
• Be mindful of the submission deadline and allow yourself enough time to prepare.
• Select the most appropriate award category and clearly indicate your choice.
• Include as much relevant detail as possible that aligns with the award criteria.
• Use specific, measurable examples where possible to illustrate your nominee’s impact.
• Double-check the spelling of names and include complete, accurate contact information.

All nominations must include a detailed explanation outlining why the individual, organization or business deserves recognition under the selected category. Submissions should describe the nominee's contributions to accessibility and inclusion, including key projects or initiatives, community impact, and the level of commitment demonstrated.

Please note that nominations that are incomplete, lack sufficient detail, or do not meet the award criteria may be deemed ineligible and not considered by the selection committee.

The Town of Cobourg’s Accessibility Advisory Committee, Legislative Coordinator – Records and Accessibility, and the Clerk (or designate) will select the winner based on one (or more) of the following criteria:

1. Built environment – a building, interior, or outdoor space purposefully designed, modified or renovated to eliminate barriers and/or enhance access for people with disabilities
2. Customer service – breaking down barriers that prevent customers with disabilities from accessing the services they need. Barriers include physical/architectural, technological, information or communication, organizational and attitudinal
3. Education – identifying and removing barriers to student participation in learning at all levels from kindergarten through to post-secondary and adult education
4. Employment – employers making their workplace practices accessible to potential or current workers with disabilities
5. Information and communication – creating, providing, and receiving information and communications that people with disabilities can access. Accessible information and communication provide all people an equal chance to learn and be active in their communities.
