The animal control by-laws regulate animals in the Town of Cobourg.
Every dog in Cobourg requires a current dog licence (also known as a dog tag) each year. You can obtain your dog tag at the Municipal Office after you have filled out the Dog Tag Application. You can be fined $75 for not having a dog licence.
The Town of Cobourg is partnered with the Municipality of Port Hope, the Township of Alnwick/Haldimand and the Township of Hamilton to provide animal control services. A member from each municipal Council sits on the Board. The Board oversees the operation of the Municipal Animal Services. View the Board's agendas and minutes.
The Municipal Animal Services is committed to the care and well-being of all animals in its mandate. They catch lost animals and arrange for pet adoptions. If the Municipal Animal Services finds your lost pet, you will have to pay a $30 Impound Fee and $15/night Board Fee (plus HST) to get your animal released.
The Municipal Animal Services is located at 2363 Theatre Road South (between Hwy 2 and Telephone Road). You can call their office at (905) 885-7808 or Dispatch: (905) 885-8092.
