Cobourg, ON (October 12, 2021) – In accordance with the Province of Ontario’s Reopening Ontario Act: A Flexible Response to COVID-19, 2020 O. reg. 364/20, local public health guidelines and to further ensure the safety and wellbeing of the community, the Town of Cobourg’s Community Events Committee and the Cobourg Santa Claus Parade Planning Committee have made the decision to cancel the Cobourg Santa Claus Parade for 2021.
On July 16, 2021, the Province of Ontario moved into Step 3 of the Roadmap, where social gatherings are restricted to 25 people indoors and 100 people outdoors. Due to the provincial restrictions and the large number of residents and visitors that attend the annual Cobourg Santa Claus Parade, the decision to cancel the event remains in accordance with all provincial and public health guidelines. At this time, it is unknown when Ontario will enter the Roadmap Exit Step.
Santa Claus is (Still) Coming to Town – Stay Tuned for More Details
However, the Town of Cobourg, in partnership with Santa Claus and his elves, will still be spreading holiday cheer across the community by touring residential neighbourhoods on a private float. Residents of all ages and abilities will be able to see Santa from the comfort of their home, porch, balcony, or front yard.
“Although we are sad to cancel our traditional Santa Claus Parade format, the health and safety of our residents remains our top priority,” said Councillor Adam Bureau, Coordinator of Arts, Culture and Tourism for the Town of Cobourg. “We are however very excited to try something new this year to continue to spread the holiday spirit with Santa Claus and his elves safely touring our community on their own private float!”
More information on Santa Claus’ residential tour will be shared in the coming weeks including route maps, dates and times on the Experience Cobourg website and the Town of Cobourg’s website.
