Cobourg, ON (September 8, 2021) – The Town of Cobourg’s Community Services Division is pleased to announce that the annual 2021 OJHL Governors’ Showcase presented by Warrior will be hosted by the Cobourg Cougars Junior ‘A’ Hockey Club at the Cobourg Community Centre beginning Monday, October 25, 2021 until Wednesday, October 27, 2021.
The annual Governors’ Showcase provides all teams within the OJHL, including the Cobourg Cougars, an opportunity to showcase their players to numerous scouts from the National Hockey League (NHL), Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). All 21 teams in the league will play two games, which are included in the regular season game standings.
“The Cougars have maintained a symbiotic relationship with the Town of Cobourg and Northumberland County for nearly six decades now,” said Marc Mercier, Governor of the Cobourg Cougars. “Our organization has a proven track record of working closely with the OJHL and the Town of Cobourg to host premier events at the community centre that provide tremendous stimulus and economic benefits to our community. We are excited to showcase our players at this year’s event to scouts from across the country.”
The OJHL, the Cobourg Cougars and the Cobourg Community Centre will ensure all current public health guidelines and restrictions are followed during the 2021 Governors’ Showcase to maintain a safe, healthy and fun event for our community, fans and visiting teams.
In preparation of the upcoming season, the OJHL announced its vaccination policy on August 25, 2021, that requires all members, including players, coaches, trainers, staff, officials, volunteers and billet families, to have received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccination prior to the commencement of any team activities associated with the beginning of the 2021/2022 season. The policy is fully intended to protect the health and safety of league players and members and to protect against the potential transmission of the virus.
“We are thrilled to welcome members of the OJHL to the Cobourg Community Centre for the annual 2021 Governors’ Showcase,” said Teresa Behan, Deputy Director of the Community Services Division. “Our community centre remains an excellent asset for hockey events while also supporting our tourism industry. We are looking forward to working closely with the OJHL and the Cobourg Cougars to ensure this event is safe and successful.”
