Community invited to observe budget delibrations and participate in community engagement

Cobourg, ON (December 7, 2023)– The Town of Cobourg would like to inform residents of the approved 2024 budget deliberation schedule.

At the Monday, December 4, 2023, Regular Council Meeting, Council approved a memo from the Treasurer and Director of Corporate Services, regarding the 2024 budget schedule and community engagement recommendations. Residents are welcome and encouraged to participate in the following budget dates and opportunities for community input:

Public Budget Recommendations:
Residents are invited to present their recommendations for the 2024 budget to Council at the December 11, 2023, public meeting. Requests for delegation can be submitted to the Clerks Department at clerk@cobourg.ca.

Divisional Staff Budget Presentation
On December 12 and 13, 2023 Town staff will be presenting their budget recommendations to Council. During this detailed overview, residents will be able to learn more about key operating and capital drivers, special projects and cost avoidance and saving initiatives.

Community Engagement Launch
Following the divisional presentation by staff, the Town of Cobourg will launch a Community engagement program regarding the 2024 budget. Residents will have the opportunity to weigh in on projects being proposed by staff as well as provide additional information on the programs and services they feel require more funding and staff attention.The results of the community engagement survey will be presented to Council prior to the detailed budget review session in January so that Council will have insight from the community as they make their final budget decisions.

Full-Detailed Budget Review by Council
On January 9, 2024, Council will review the draft budget in its entirety. During this meeting, Council may request additional information from staff or make adjustments to the draft budget.
