Cobourg, ON (May 24, 2022) – Following the devastation caused by the weather system that swept through Southern Ontario on Saturday afternoon, the Town of Cobourg Emergency Management Department would like to remind citizens of the importance of 72 hour emergency kits.
As we approach June, the Town of Cobourg Emergency Management Department would like to remind citizens that severe weather in Canada takes many different forms in the summer months. Violent weather that can produce strong winds, heavy rains, lightning, thunder, and hail can cause injuries, and destruction of property, crops, and livestock.
“As we witnessed this weekend, severe weather can cause major destruction in a matter of minutes,” says Shannon Murphy, Town of Cobourg Emergency Planner. During those first 72 hours, emergency departments and hydro are extremely busy and may not be able to respond in their regular manner. “Being prepared with a 72-hour kit and a storm readiness plan, is of the utmost importance for the health and safety of you and your family.”
