(Issued July 15, 2021 at 3:30 p.m. EST) – The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge (HKPR) District Health Unit has advised the Town of Cobourg that Victoria Park Beach is now safe for swimming after retesting results came back with an acceptable E. coli bacteria level.
Earlier this week, the Victoria Park Beach water quality report sampled on July 12, 2021 showed bacteria levels at 823 E.coli which exceeds the provincial standard of 200 E. coli. The water was retested on July 13, 2021 and showed bacteria levels at 149 E. coli which meets the standard.
The West Harbour remains posted at “Medium Risk” and swimming is not recommended as the water quality report sampled on July 12, 2021 showed bacteria levels at 498 E. coli.
The HKPR District Health Unit and Town of Cobourg staff both sample water on a frequent basis to monitor bacteria levels. Beginning today Town staff will update the signage at the Victoria Park Beach and West Harbour to reflect the latest results. The Town of Cobourg will continue to advise the community of future testing results.
