In honour of Volunteer Appreciation Week, we wanted to take a moment to tell you about our phenomenal volunteers. With an active team of over 30, we have volunteers who help us with everything from shelf reading and organizing, to delivering books to seniors, helping us with programs, and keeping The Garden of Reading in great shape.
We have been able to accomplish so much thanks to the generosity of our volunteers, some highlights include:
- We operate five pop-up libraries in Cobourg, all of which are maintained by one volunteer who loyally replenishes them each week. This service adds over 100 books each month for our community to enjoy.
- Thanks to the dedication of one volunteer, we're able to deliver Library materials to three local Retirement Homes each month.
- We have a giving group of Home Service volunteers who graciously donate their time to deliver materials to patrons who cannot get to the Library themselves. During the pandemic (and beyond), we've had 14 Home Service patrons, and counting, who have been a part of this service.
- The Garden of Reading would not be watered or weeded regularly without the help of two dedicated volunteers. One has taken the time to water the garden daily for us and the other weeds for us on an ongoing basis.
- Monday Movies are back! This program has run successfully since its inception, thanks to the help of a team of three volunteers who run it from start to finish, including selecting and introducing the films!
- With in-person programming re-starting, we have a dedicated team of volunteers that actively make a huge impact on how we offer our programming. They help us with preparation, setup, welcoming our guests, take-down, serving refreshments, and so much more.
- You may have seen our volunteers at outreach events in the community over the years, including the recent Houseplant Swap. This fun group allows us to up our social impact and reach out to the communities we serve with ease.
- Shelf-reading and organization is something that has kept our volunteers very active throughout the years. Volunteers have assisted staff with ensuring our collection is in tip-top shape.
- A rather new volunteer program, the Teen Knitters, have created over 20 hand-knit items to be shared during the cool months as a part of our "Community Comforts" bin.
These are just a few of the amazing things that our team of volunteers has helped the Library accomplish - all for you - the community.
