(Cobourg, ON) January 21, 2019 – In response to the extreme cold warnings being issued, the Town of Cobourg will be offering ‘warming centres’ across the community for those seeking relief from the cold temperatures. Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia.
The Town of Cobourg has identified the following public places as warming centres:
• Victoria Hall Lobby (55 King Street West)
Open: Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Closed weekends.• Cobourg Community Centre (750 D’Arcy Street)Open: Monday to Thursday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed on long weekends. CLOSED TODAY
• Northumberland Mall (1111 Elgin Street West)
Open: Monday to Friday 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Cobourg Police Station – Comfort Centre (107 King Street West)
Open: Monday to Sunday 24/7.
• Cobourg Public Library (200 Ontario Street)
Open: Monday to Wednesday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday to Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.
