COVID-19 Updates

Cobourg, ON (December 21, 2020) – The Town of Cobourg will now be entering into a 28-day Provincewide Shutdown beginning on Saturday, December 26, 2020 (Boxing Day) following the Province of Ontario’s recent announcement at 1 p.m. today.

The Provincewide Shutdown is in place for a limited time in order to stop the trend of high COVID-19 transmission in communities, preserve health system capacity, safeguard vulnerable populations and those who care for them, and save lives. Further details on the recently released Provincewide Shutdown document can be found here.

“We support the Government of Ontario’s decision to move everyone into a Provincewide Shutdown so that we can break this chain of transmission that is causing case counts to climb progressively and in turn putting pressure on so many hospitals including Northumberland Hills Hospital and the Campbellford Memorial Hospital,” said Mayor John Henderson for the Town of Cobourg. “The holidays are fast approaching and what we need to do now is further reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19 by exclusively remaining within our immediate households.”

As part of the decision, elementary-age school children will not be returning to classes as scheduled after the holidays but would spend the first week of school in the New Year at home doing virtual learning and then return to in-person learning on January 11, 2021. In-class learning in high schools will remain closed for the entire 28-day period, though virtual learning would occur and will then return to in-person learning on January 25, 2021.

Effective Saturday, December 26, 2020 (Boxing Day) at 12:01 a.m. EST the following changes will be made in adherence to the Provincewide Shutdown:
