Town Prepares for Annual Dredging Operations at Cobourg Harbour

Cobourg, ON (April 24, 2026) – The Town of Cobourg would like to advise residents that the annual dredging operations of Cobourg Harbour will be taking place throughout April, May and June.

Mechanical dredging involves removing accumulated sand and silt, which contributes to shallow water levels and hinders boat anchoring and navigation. Maintaining proper depths in the harbour ensures continued accessibility and functionality for boaters and recreational users. This is part of the Town's ongoing commitment to maintaining the harbour’s functionality.

Dredging will begin at the entry of the harbour to ensure safe access for the Coast Guard. Additional dredging will be conducted, as required throughout the summer season to maintain water depth. Staff will make every effort to minimize disruptions and work around activities taking place along the waterfront.

Dewatering Sand on the Beach
During April and May and early June, residents visiting the waterfront will notice piles of sand and holes in the beach.  These are a result of dredging operations, allowing water to percolate out of the sand before it is trucked off-site. Fencing will be installed to ensure public safety during this time.

Third Street, Hibernia, and Marissa Lane Residents
Residents along Third Street, Hibernia and Marissa Lane will notice the presence of the dredge supply trailer parked in the Marina parking lot. The trailer will be on-site when dredge supplies are needed on site and will remain in place until early June. When not in use, the trailer will be moved off-site. Should additional dredging be required in the fall, the trailer may return to the Marina parking lot.
