Notice of Complete Application and Public Meeting for 540 King Street East

Cobourg, ON (August 5, 2026) – The Corporation of the Town of Cobourg would like to inform residents that the Town has received a complete application for an amendment to the Zoning By-law No. 066-2025 by Fotenn Planning + Design on behalf of Sunnyside Village Inc under Section 34 of the Planning Act, R.S.O. 1990 c.P. 13, as amended.

The Municipal Council of the Town of Cobourg will hold a Public Meeting regarding the aforementioned application on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers, 3rd Floor East Wing, Victoria Hall, 55 King Street West, Cobourg in accordance with the provisions of the Planning Act.

Proposed Zoning: Changes to R2 and R4 Exception lot-specific provisions for residential density, setbacks, lot areas, lot coverage and parking locations.

Purpose and Effect of the Application
The Zoning By-law Amendment is seeking to change site-specific provisions in the above R2 and R4 Exception blocks pertaining to residential density, location of required parking, permitted locations for parking, setbacks for private detached garages, setbacks (minimum front yard and exterior side yard), maximum lot coverages, and minimum lot areas.

Public Meeting Details
Council will be considering the above noted application at a public meeting scheduled for Wednesday, August 26th, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. The public may view the meeting in person or online via the Town of Cobourg live stream (https://calendar.cobourg.ca/council). If you wish to participate in the public meeting, you may do so by attending in person in the Council Chambers, 3rd Floor East Wing, Victoria Hall, 55 King Street West, Cobourg. If you would like to speak to an agenda item electronically via Zoom, please email clerk@cobourg.ca no later than 12:00 p.m. the business day prior to the meeting and you will be registered as a virtual speaker.

Representation
Any person may attend the public planning meeting and make written and/or verbal representation either in support of or in opposition to the proposed application(s). Written submissions can be sent electronically to clerk@cobourg.ca or can be dropped off at Victoria Hall, 55 King Street West, Cobourg. Please ensure your name and address are included as required for the public record. Please note that any information provided within written submissions may be made available to the public for review prior to the meeting.

If a person or public body does not make oral submissions at a public meeting or make written submissions to the Town of Cobourg before the by-law is passed, the person or public body is not entitled to appeal the decision of the Council of the Town of Cobourg to the Ontario Land Tribunal, and may not be added as a party to the hearing of an appeal before the Ontario Land Tribunal unless, in the opinion of the Tribunal, there are reasonable grounds to do so.

Notice of Passing
A copy of the Notice of Passing will be sent to the applicant, and to each person who has filed with the Clerk a written request for Notice of Passing.
