Lane Closures on William and Ontario Streets for King Street West Reconstruction

Cobourg, ON (September 15, 2026) – The Town of Cobourg’s Public Works and Engineering Division would like to advise the community of southbound lane closures on William Street and Ontario Street near King Street West for approximately three weeks.

The southbound curb lane on William Street, from approximately 65 metres north of King Street West, and the southbound lane on Ontario Street, from approximately 45 metres south of King Street West, are closed as part of the ongoing King Street West reconstruction project. The closures will allow crews to complete sewer and watermain connections and intersection improvements as part of the ongoing King Street West reconstruction project.

King Street West Reconstruction Project
Construction on King Street West, from the Cobourg Creek bridge to William/Ontario Street, continues to progress slightly ahead of schedule. The road remains temporarily closed to through vehicular traffic, with local access to properties for vehicular and pedestrian traffic, except for short-duration interruptions.

By early October, underground work, including watermain, sanitary sewer and storm sewer work, is expected to be completed. Surface restoration work will then commence, including the installation of concrete curbs, gutters and sidewalks.

The work began in June and is expected to be completed by mid-November, weather permitting.

Asset Management – King Street West Reconstruction

Through the Town of Cobourg’s Asset Management Plan, staff identified the King Street West reconstruction project as a high priority for capital investment. Work to be completed includes watermain, sanitary and storm sewer replacement, and road resurfacing.
