Final Day to Submit Nomination Papers for 2026 Municipal and School Board Election is August 21
Cobourg, ON (August 12, 2026) – The Town of Cobourg Legislative Services Division would like to inform all residents that the final day to submit nomination papers for the 2026 Municipal and School Board Election is Friday, August 21, 2026, at 2 p.m.
The upcoming Municipal Election to elect a Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Councillors and School Board Trustees will be held on Monday, October 26, 2026. Interested candidates may file their nomination papers at the Clerk’s Office, 55 King Street West, Cobourg, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. On Nomination Day, Friday, August 21, candidates may file their papers from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Candidates are encouraged to contact the Town of Cobourg Clerk’s Office or visit CobourgVotes.ca for nomination forms, election information and to schedule an appointment to file nomination papers.
Candidates should be aware of the following requirements:
- Nomination papers must be filed with the Municipal Clerk/Returning Officer by 2 p.m. on Nomination Day, Friday, August 21, 2026.
- Municipal Council candidates must submit Form 2 – Endorsement of Nomination signed by at least 25 eligible voters.
- Candidates must be registered before spending money on their campaign or accepting campaign contributions.
- A filing fee of $200 for Head of Council candidates and $100 for all other offices is required when submitting nomination papers.
- Candidates must meet the eligibility requirements to run for municipal office and are encouraged to confirm their eligibility before filing nomination papers.
Following Nomination Day, the Municipal Clerk will review all submitted nominations and will determine whether each candidate meets the qualifications and requirements under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996. Candidates whose nominations are certified will be eligible to run in the election. Those whose nominations are rejected will be notified.

The 2026 Municipal and School Board Election will take place across all Ontario municipalities. Voting in the Town of Cobourg will be internet voting, a secure and convenient way to vote anytime and from anywhere during the voting period.
Prefer to vote in person? The Town of Cobourg will be hosting Voter Help Centres during the voting period where residents may use a secure voting kiosk, with staff support available every step of the way.
The voting period will open on Friday, October 16, 2026, and close on Monday, October 26, 2026, at 8:00 p.m.
