D’Arcy Street and University Avenue East Traffic Signals to Be Activated October 30

Cobourg, ON (October 29, 2026) – The Town of Cobourg’s Public Works and Engineering Division advises residents that the new traffic signals at D’Arcy Street and University Avenue East will be activated on Friday, October 30, 2026.

The activation will begin at 9 a.m., after the morning peak traffic, and is expected to take a few hours to complete. Cobourg Police Service officers will be on-site to direct traffic during the activation.

Motorists are reminded to slow down, remain alert and watch for schoolchildren and other pedestrians.

Additional Traffic Signal Improvements
In July, the Town of Cobourg announced plans to construct traffic signal improvements at three intersections.

New traffic signals were installed at D’Arcy Street and Elgin Street East in partnership with Northumberland County. The D’Arcy Street and Elgin Street East traffic signals were activated on October 16, 2026.

The third project is at Division Street and University Avenue, where existing traffic signals are being upgraded to include left-turn signals for all intersection approaches. This work is ongoing.

Background
The intersections were approved as part of the 2026 capital budget and funded through the Infrastructure Reserve with Northumberland County contributing costs for the D’Arcy Street and Elgin Street East traffic signal infrastructure, and the Town contributed costs for civil works (i.e. curbs, pavement markings, etc.).

This initiative reflects the Town’s commitment to improving safety for children, pedestrians, and the broader community.
