Cobourg Launches New Volunteer Pilot Program

Cobourg, ON (October 1, 2026) – The Town of Cobourg is inviting residents to find more ways to get involved in their community through Get Involved Cobourg!, a new volunteer and civic participation pilot program.

Based on the Service Ballots model developed by MASS Civic Innovation Lab, the initiative gives residents an opportunity to tell the Town about the causes, topics and types of volunteer opportunities that interest them.

Opportunities may range from helping at a community event to serving on an advisory committee or taking on a longer-term volunteer role.

The 2026 Municipal and School Board Election provides an important opportunity to have a say in local government. After the election, there are many other ways to contribute to the community throughout the year. Get Involved Cobourg! provides another way for residents to exercise their civic voice and share their time, skills and interests.

By completing a voluntary online form, residents can choose to be contacted when volunteer or civic participation opportunities arise that align with their interests. Residents may update their preferences or request to be removed from the contact list at any time.

The pilot is part of the Town’s broader work to strengthen public participation and make local government more open, accessible and connected to the community.

Residents can learn more and complete the form at EngageCobourg.ca/Volunteer.

About Service Ballots
A Service Ballot is a short optional form that residents can complete to indicate their interest in municipal volunteer and civic service opportunities. It is separate from the election ballot and does not affect voting. It helps municipalities connect residents with opportunities such as events, workshops, engagement projects, advisory groups, boards, committees, and other local initiatives.
