Accessible Beach Mat and Splash Pad ready for community enjoyment
Cobourg, ON (June 5, 2024) – The Town of Cobourg Community Services Division would like to update residents on the work of the Parks Department as Cobourg prepares to for another beautiful summer season.
The Town of Cobourg Parks Department maintains 72 community parks and Connecting Trails, 28 sports fields, 14 playgrounds, and one dog park. Parks staff support other Town departments through the delivery of festivals and events and harbour operations. They ensure Town parks, playing fields, tennis and pickleball courts, Rotary Harbourfront Outdoor rink and Centennial pool are safe and accessible to our community and our tree lined streets, trails and forests are beautiful and welcoming spaces for our residents to enjoy. Each year, the Town of Cobourg Parks Department assesses our built and natural infrastructure to ensure municipal facilities continue to meet the needs of our community.

As we enter summer 2024, the Town of Cobourg Parks Department is busy preparing infrastructure and planting Cobourg’s iconic flower beds and baskets.
Horticulture Update
Town horticulture staff have been busy over the winter and early spring seeding and transplanting the annuals and perennials that will be planted in this year’s public flower beds and flower baskets around town. Each year, the Town of Cobourg Parks staff enhance our downtown with our picturesque hanging baskets and large stone flowerpots. They beautify our parks and facilities with the elaborate colours of our municipal flower beds as well as design and plant our iconic floral clock in Victoria Park. Featuring a new theme and design each year. This year the floral clock has a special tribute to the Cobourg Garden Club as they celebrate their 165th year.
Accessible Beach Mat
The Town of Cobourg accessible beach mat is being installed Wednesday, June 5.The accessible beach mat allows wheelchair users or families with strollers or wagons to easily access and enjoy Victoria Beach.The beach is 300 ft in length and runs through the centre of the beach, starting from the Victoria Park pergola.
Cobourg Splash Pad
The splash pad will be open starting June 5 and will operate daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Rotary Harbourfront Park Pond
The butterfly wings have been installed and the liner for the pond will be placed the week of June 3. The Parks Department hopes to have the pond open by June 10.
Urban Forestry
Cobourg’s commitment to urban forestry continues with the maintenance of over 9,708 municipal trees. This year, the Town Arborist will participate in community tree plantings and educational activities. These initiatives not only enhance the town’s natural beauty but also promote environmental sustainability and community involvement. The Parks Department is dedicated to ensuring the Cobourg’s tree-lined streets, trails, and parks remain lush and vibrant for all residents to enjoy.
Recreation and Parks Month, Parks and Recreation Ontario
June is Recreation and Parks Month. Initiated by Parks and Recreation Ontario, it is a movement that promotes the benefits of recreation and parks for physical, social, and environmental health.
Access to parks and recreation is a fundamental human need that helps foster personal health, strong communities, and social inclusion. JRPM celebrates Ontario’s spectacular parks and recreation services and raises awareness for the role they play as a pathway to individual, community, and environmental well-being.
