Cobourg, ON (May 5, 2025) – The Town of Cobourg is encouraging residents to learn more about how to prepare themselves and their family in honour of Emergency Preparedness Week.
Emergency Preparedness Week (EP Week) is a national awareness initiative coordinated by Public Safety Canada, in close collaboration with the provinces and territories and partners. This year, the theme is Be Prepared. Know Your Risks. EP Week encourages Canadians to take steps to become better prepared to face a range of emergencies including:
Community Education Initiatives:
The Town of Cobourg Emergency Planner is taking this opportunity to provide education to residents so they can better prepare themselves and their family for an emergency. Residents can attend Victoria Hall on Tuesday, May 6th from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. to speak with the Emergency Planner about what they need to know to be better prepared.
Stay Informed During an Emergency:
During an emergency, the Town of Cobourg will update the public via the following communications mediums.
Alertable is a multi-purpose communication service used to send alerts to residents, businesses, and visitors during critical events as well as for relevant day-to-day communications, such as major service disruptions. With the Alertable notification system, the Town of Cobourg will be able to increase its ability in reach residents directly based on their preferred means of communication. The program has a free App that can be downloaded onto a mobile phone, tablet, or smart speaker (e.g. Amazon Alexa, Google Nest) or residents can also sign up to receive notifications via email or text message.
