Cobourg, ON (December 28, 2021) – The Town of Cobourg would like to inform residents that there will be an increase to transit fares beginning in 2022, with the price for a single cash fare increasing by 25 cents from $2 to $2.25 as well as adjustments to 30-Day Passes.
The fee increase is to offset operating expenses associated with the transit system. There have been no changes to transit fees in over 15 years.
“We have been making great efforts towards improving the transit system as economically as possible,” said Laurie Wills, Director of Public Works for the Town of Cobourg. “We appreciate Cobourg residents understanding the need for these fare increases in order to continue providing the best possible public transit services to our community.”
In 2014, a Transit Study recommended increasing single transit fares from $2 to $2.50 over three years. The study noted the senior discount at 50 percent off was high and the student monthly pass discounts should be closer to senior fares. The ultimate fare increases to $2.50 is comparable to fares in similar municipalities.
The Town of Cobourg will be changing the fares incrementally over the next three years.
