Behind the Scenes Volunteer:

The Role: Are you a detail-oriented "maker" who prefers to work out of the spotlight? We need independent helpers who work behind the scenes to make our programs, events and displays even better. 

  • Key Tasks: Prepping "Take and Make" craft kits (cutting, sorting, assembly), filling supplies, folding documents, and assembling Welcome Kits, Cricut machine work and other duties as assigned. 

  • Ideal Match: Someone who enjoys repetitive, tactile tasks and can work efficiently with minimal supervision. 

Community Ambassador: 

The Role: Do you love the Cobourg Public Library and want to tell the world about it? Help us take the Library beyond our four walls! 

  • Key Tasks: Representing the Library at community events alongside staff, promoting our resources, and assisting with both in-house and off-site programming. 

  • Ideal Match: An outgoing, "people person" with great communication skills and a passion for community engagement. 

Library Garden Steward:

The Role: Do you have a green thumb and a passion for the outdoors? We are looking for dedicated volunteers to help our Library’s garden flourish! This role is essential for maintaining a beautiful, ecological space for our community to enjoy from spring through autumn. 

  • Key Tasks: Hands-on maintenance including watering, weeding, and planting throughout the growing season (May to October). 

  • The Commitment: Volunteers must be able to adhere to a consistent, pre-determined schedule at the Cobourg Public Library to ensure our plants stay healthy. 

  • Ideal Match: Someone who loves gardening, enjoys being active outdoors, and is reliable enough to stick to a watering schedule even in the summer heat. 

Home Services Delivery: 

The Role: Bring the Library to those who can't come to us. This role combines a love of reading with a vital social connection, ensuring our homebound patrons stay inspired and engaged. 

  • Key Tasks: Curating a monthly selection of materials based on a patron's unique interests (with staff guidance) and making personal deliveries. 

  • Essential Requirements: * A valid Full G Driver’s License. 

  • Willingness to drive within both Cobourg and the Township of Hamilton. 

  • Ideal Match: Someone reliable, empathetic, and organized who enjoys building one-on-one relationships. 

Note to ApplicantsWe are currently at full capacity for our Home Services Delivery volunteer team. However, we are always happy to accept applications for our waitlist to be contacted when a position becomes available! 

Qualifications:

Before applying, please ensure you meet our core requirements

  • Age: 14 to 17 years old. 

  • Education: Currently attending a local high school

  • Interest: A genuine passion for the Cobourg Public Library and our community! 

🌱 Teen Garden Stewards

The Role: Are you interested in ecology or just love being outside? Help our garden stay green! This is a great way to earn your hours in the fresh air. 

  • The Task: Watering, weeding, and planting in the Library’s garden. 

  • Season: May through September. 

  • Commitment: You must commit to a specific weekly schedule to ensure the garden thrives. 

  • Hours: 1 hour worked = 1 hour of volunteer service

📣 Teen Community Ambassadors

The Role: Are you a social butterfly who loves the Library? Help us "take the Library on the road" to festivals and local events or with programs in-house. 

  • The Task: Spreading the word about library programs, assisting with in-house and community programs and events. 

  • Skills Needed: Strong social skills and the ability to lift up to 20lbs (for event setup and take-down) 

  • Hours: 1 hour worked = 1 hour of volunteer service. 

📸 Teen Content Creators (Social Media) 

The Role: Are you a platform pro or an aspiring "Bookstagrammer"? Help us show the community what’s happening at the Cobourg Public Library! We’re looking for creative minds to help us stay trendy and connected with our younger audience. 

  • The Task: Create engaging photos and short-form videos (Reels/TikToks) highlighting new book arrivals, "day in the life" Library clips, and upcoming teen programs or events. 

  • The Workflow: All content is created on-site or using library materials and must be submitted to Rachel Spence, Community Engagement Coordinator, for final approval before posting. 

  • Hours: 1 video = 1 hour of volunteer service. 

  • Skills Needed: A good eye for photography/video, knowledge of current social media trends, and a creative spirit! 

  • Screening: Applicants will meet with the Community Engagement Coordinator to review library social media safety guidelines (like not filming patrons) and branding (reflecting the library in a positive way).

Home Service Delivery Program

The Cobourg Public Library offers a free Home Bound Delivery service for Cobourg, Bewdley and Gores Landing residents who cannot make it into the Library. Once every four weeks, we will deliver a new bag of Library materials to you and pick up the Library materials that are ready to be returned.

Who is eligible for Home Services Delivery?

Our Home Bound Delivery Service is for Cobourg, Bewdley and Gores Landing residents who cannot make it into the Library due to:

  • Long-term illness
  • Mobility issues
  • Physical disability
  • Visual disability

Where do we deliver?

We can only deliver to addresses within the Cobourg, Bewdley and Gores Landing area, including:

  • Long-term care facilities
  • Nursing homes
  • Private homes
  • Retirement homes
  • Seniors' apartments

What can be borrowed?

Library materials from our fiction and non-fiction collections that can be borrowed include:

  • Books on CD
  • DVDs
  • Music CDs
  • Paperbacks
  • Regular print and large print books

Library materials that cannot be borrowed through our Home Services Delivery include:

  • Quick Reads
  • Fast Flicks
  • Binge Bundles
  • Interlibrary loans

How does it work?

Deliveries

Once every four weeks, we will deliver a bag of Library materials to your residence. At the same time, we will pick up any Library materials that are ready to be returned.

Selection of Library materials

For both our Home Services Delivery and Library Pickup services, Library materials are selected either by:

  • Library staff, based on your reading interests with the help of your volunteer.
