Town of Cobourg Lifts Significant Weather Event

Cobourg, ON (January 27, 2026 at 3:15 p.m.) – The Town of Cobourg would like to advise residents that the Significant Weather Event has been lifted for the Cobourg area.

Under the Municipal Act, 2001, Regulation 239/02 (Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways), a municipality may declare a Significant Weather Event when severe weather conditions make it unreasonable to meet normal winter maintenance response times.

When a Significant Weather Event is declared, prescribed service timelines are temporarily suspended; however, winter operations continue, with crews focusing on safety, keeping roads passable, and prioritizing arterial roads and emergency routes.

The Town of Cobourg officially declared a Significant Weather Event at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, January 25, due to the heavy snowfall forecasted. In accordance with the Minimum Maintenance Standards, Ontario Reg. 239/02 the Town of Cobourg lifted the Significant Weather Event as of 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. Standard timelines for road and sidewalk winter maintenance will now resume as usual.

Keep Roads Clear for Plows

During heavy snow and extreme weather events, residents are reminded to keep their vehicles off the road to ensure that snowplows and salt trucks can access all areas as safely and efficiently as possible.
