Town of Cobourg Flags at Half-Mast
Police and Peace Officers' National Memorial Day and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
Cobourg, ON (September 27, 2024) – Flags across the Town of Cobourg will fly at half-mast in honour of Police and Piece Officers’ National Memorial Day, Sunday September 29, 2024 and the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, Monday September 30.
On September 24, 1998, the Government of Canada officially proclaimed the last Sunday of September of every year as Police and Peace Officers' National Memorial Day. It is an annual opportunity to formally express appreciation for the dedication of police and peace officers who lost their lives in the line of duty and to offer condolences to the surviving families of those who gave their lives in the service of their communities.
Each year, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The day honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.
Flags across all Town of Cobourg properties will fly at half-mast until Tuesday, October 1, 2024.
