Town of Cobourg Celebrates National AccessAbility Week
Cobourg, ON (May 26, 2025) – The Town of Cobourg, in partnership with the Cobourg Accessibility Advisory Committee invites the residents to celebrate National Accessibility Week.
The Town of Cobourg is committed to meeting the needs of people with disabilities in a timely and proactive manner and will use reasonable efforts to provide equitable access to municipal programs, goods, services and facilities in a way that respects a person's dignity and independence.
National AccessAbility Week takes place from May 25 to 31, 2025. Throughout the week, the Town of Cobourg will be sharing insights and information to engage with the community to help improve thinking and understanding of accessibility. Additionally, the Town of Cobourg, in partnership with the Accessibility Advisory Committee (the Committee) is seeking community input for the municipal Multi-Year Accessibility Plan.
The Town of Cobourg 2020 to 2025 Multi-Year Accessibility Plan outlines how the municipality will remove and prevent accessibility barriers. The Town of Cobourg is working towards updating this plan and is seeking insights from the community to support the continuous effort to remove barriers, creating a fair and welcoming community for everyone.
Accessibility Advisory Committee – Local Champions for Accessibility
The Town of Cobourg Accessibility Advisory Committee provides sound advice and recommendations to Council on matters relating to the goal of ensuring equitable access to municipal programs, good, services and facilities. Over the coming months, the Committee will be working with staff to update the Multi-Year Accessibility Plan. Committee meetings are open to the public, and anyone who has a recommendation for the updated plan is invited to present a delegation or correspondence for the Committee’s consideration.
Community Engagement:
The Town of Cobourg wants to ensure that all voices can be heard regarding the Multi-Year Accessibility Plan. Staff will be issuing a community engagement program to educate residents on the current plan, actions taken in the last four years to improve accessibility and key priorities as identified by the Committee for 2025 and beyond. Residents will then be invited to provide their feedback and recommendations to help make Cobourg a barrier-free community.
