Town of Cobourg Alerts Residents to National Recall of Electrical Devices GFCI Outlets Over Fire Hazard

Cobourg, ON (August 1, 2025) — The Town of Cobourg wishes to alert residents to a recently issued Health Canada recall involving Electrical Devices Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) safety outlets sold at Home Hardware stores across Canada. These outlets have been recalled due to a potential fire hazard.

What products are affected?

  • Three white-coloured models of the Electrical Devices GFCI safety outlet with decorative wall plates.
  • Items include:
    • Item 3666‑035 3‑pack (Model TST15)
    • Item 3666‑036 1‑pack (Model TST15)
    • Item 3666‑037 1‑pack (Model TST20)
    • UPC numbers: 822733135626, 822733135640, 822733135664
  • Visual identifiers: letters “TR” stamped on the front, “LGL” embossed on the back of the outlet. Packaging item numbers and model numbers are printed on the bottom-left of the front and back sides respectively.

Why is this recall important?

Terminal screws on these outlets may not tighten properly, which can lead to overheating and increase the risk of property fire damage. As of July 9, 2025, 812 reports were received of faulty or stripped screws, and one fire was reported that caused property damage. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.

Approximately 664,000 units were sold in Canada between 2015 and May 2025.

Action for residents:

  1. Stop using immediately any affected GFCI safety outlet.
  2. Contact Unison Ridge, the distributor, for safe uninstallation instructions.
  3. Return the product to any Home Hardware store in Canada for a full refund.
  4. Visit the Health Canada recall page for full guidance. (https://recalls-rappels.canada.ca/en/alert-recall/electrical-devices-gfci-safety-outlet-sold-home-hardware-recalled-due-fire-hazard )

Please do not redistribute, resell, or donate these recalled products doing so would violate the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act.
