Cobourg Transit Expands Limited Fixed Route Service Hours

Cobourg, ON (March 2, 2026) – The Town of Cobourg’s Public Works and Engineering Division is pleased to announce expanded weekday service hours for Cobourg Transit’s Limited Fixed Route, effective Monday, March 9, 2026.

The Limited Fixed Route service, which features 35 stops across town on a convenient hourly schedule, currently operates weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Bus schedule and signage indicate how many minutes past the hour the bus is scheduled to arrive, with no booking necessary.

Launched as a pilot project in September 2024 to complement the Town’s On-Demand transit system, the Fixed Route has quickly become a valued transportation option for residents. In 2025 alone, the service recorded 10,289 passenger trips, with a peak month of November with 1,147 rides.

Beginning March 9, weekday service hours will expand to 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., providing greater flexibility and improved access for riders travelling to and from work, school, appointments, and other daily activities.

“This expansion reflects our commitment to building a transit system that meets the evolving needs of our community,” said Laurie Wills, Director of Public Works and Engineering. “The strong ridership numbers demonstrate that residents are embracing the Fixed Route service, and these extended hours will make transit an even more convenient and reliable option for our residents and visitors.”

Cobourg Transit On-Demand Service
Cobourg Transit offers an On-Demand service in addition to its Limited Fixed Route. Starting March 9, the On-Demand service level will expand during the final two hours of the weekdays, with two buses operating instead of one.

Hours of On-Demand Transit operation are:

• Monday to Friday 6:15 a.m. to 9 p.m. (last booking 8:45 p.m.)
• Saturday 8:15 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. (last booking 6:30 p.m.) 
• Sunday 8:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. (last booking 3:30 p.m.)

On-Demand Transit was introduced in 2021 and is a shared-ride public transit service without a fixed schedule or route. The bus travel is optimized by computer software, and it is based upon rider trip requests on a first come first served basis. Trips can be requested in advance (up to one week) or same day. The On-Demand system allows for easy booking with 184 stops throughout Town. Riders may book by either downloading the 'Cobourg Transit' App on Google Play Store or Apple App Store, booking at https://book.cobourgtransit.rideco.com, or calling 905-373-0582.

In 2025, the On-Demand service had an 89% vehicle utilization rate, with 84 percent of rides booked via the app or website.

WHEELS
Cobourg Transit offers an origin to destination service called WHEELS for eligible riders. Riders who are unable to utilize the Conventional, stop-to-stop, transit service due to cognitive, physical, sensory, visual or environmental limitations, may apply for the WHEELS program.
