Town of Cobourg Flags at half-staff for Firefighters’ National Memorial Day
Cobourg, ON (September 12, 2025) – The Town of Cobourg would like to advise residents that flags across all municipal buildings will be at half-staff on Sunday, September 14 in honour of Firefighters’ National Memorial Day.
The Government of Canada established Firefighters’ National Memorial Day as a tribute to the Firefighters who risk their lives to keep Canadians safe. The second Sunday in September of each year is now designated in memory of Firefighters who have fallen in the line of duty.
The Canadian flag will be at half-staff on all federal buildings and establishments and across all Town of Cobourg municipal buildings on Sunday, September 14. Flags will return on Monday, September 15.
Ontario Fallen Firefighter Memorial
On Sunday, October 5, 2025, the Ontario Fire Fighters Memorial Foundation will be holding a Memorial Service honouring 54 firefighters who have fallen in the line of duty since 2024 and whose names have been inscribed on the monument at Queen’s Park in Toronto. The ceremony will be held at the memorial site located on the northeast corner of Queen’s Park Circle and College Street and will begin at 1 p.m. Members of the Cobourg Fire Department will be attending this meaningful event.
The Ontario Fire Fighters Memorial Foundation was incorporated in March of 2003 with a mission to establish and maintain a lasting memorial dedicated to firefighters who have sacrificed their lives in the Line of Duty, protecting the lives and property of the people of Ontario. The Foundation is comprised of Ontario Fire Service representatives from the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs, and the Ontario Professional Fire Fighters Association.
