Paying Property Taxes

You can pay your property tax bill online, by phone, by mail, in person, at your bank or by pre-authorized payment. See details about each payment method below.     

We are pleased to offer a quick and easy payment option for customers interested in paying their property taxes by credit card.

Paymentus Corporation, an independent third-party automated payment service accepts VISA and Mastercard. There will be a fee charged by Paymentus for this service.

Online banking payments are accepted.

At most financial institutions, our payee name is listed as "Cobourg Tax". Your 15-digit roll number starting with a zero and ending with a minimum four zeros is required for setup.

Please check your bank's policies regarding the effective date of payment to ensure that your payment arrives on or before the due date and you don't incur penalty charges.  

Monthly payments

We allow taxpayers to pay their taxes on a monthly basis, free of administration fees.

Residential Owners PAP Plan

  • Your Tax Account must be in good standing (no arrears).
  • This plan allows for ten (10) instalments, the plan runs from February 10th to November 10th each year.

Commercial/Industrial/Owners PAP Plan

  • Tax Account must be in good standing (no arrears):
  • This plan allows for twelve (12) instalments, the plan runs from January 10th to December 10th each year. 

Join the Commercial/Industrial/Owners PAP Plan.

Pre-authorized payments are deducted from the taxpayer's bank account on the 10th day of each month. Some terms and conditions do apply. 

Please make all cheques or money orders payable to "The Town of Cobourg," and enclose the remittance portion to your tax bill with your payment. Please allow ample time for your payment to arrive at the Town of Cobourg on or before the due date.

We accept postdated cheques. The cheque should be dated for the due date to avoid a penalty. There is a 24-hour drop box on the west side of the building.  

The Finance Department is located on the first floor, west side of Victoria Hall, at 55 King Street West, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday (except statutory holidays).

Tax bills can be paid at any bank teller by providing the property tax roll number. To find your roll number, please see your property tax bill or call the Town of Cobourg Finance Department at 905-372-8944.

There is a 24-hour drop box located on the west side of Victoria Hall located at 55 King Street West, Cobourg, Ontario.

Penalties and interest for late payment

Interest at 1.25% of taxes unpaid will be added as penalty on the first day of default and the first day of each calendar month after due date.

To avoid any further interest charges payment must be received at the Municipal Office by the last working day of the month.

Change of address

Please complete the Change of Address form if your tax bill should be mailed to a different address, this will ensure that you receive your tax bill on time. 

Return the completed form to the Tax Department.
