Heritage Signs Guidelines

The Cobourg Sign By-law regulates signage and advertising in Cobourg. This by-law includes specific regulations to address the unique historical character of downtown Cobourg.

Before putting up a sign on a heritage property in Cobourg, you must:

  • Obtain a municipal sign permit
  • Obtain heritage approval

Signage on heritage properties should be appropriately placed in the existing sign band, and should not overwhelm the building façade. Fonts should be legible and colours should have regard for the Cobourg Heritage Colour Palette. Signs that are backlit, contain flashing or animated lights, or neon lights are not permitted.
