Total Fire Ban in Effect for Cobourg and Northumberland County

The Cobourg Fire Department would like to advise all residents of a total fire ban — all forms of open-air burning are strictly prohibited within the Town of Cobourg.

Due to extremely dry conditions and deteriorating air quality caused by ongoing wildland fires across Ontario and Manitoba, a Total Fire Ban is being implemented in Northumberland County, including the Town of Cobourg, effective immediately.

Consumer GFCI Outlet Recall Due to Fire Hazard

The Town of Cobourg wishes to alert residents to a recently issued Health Canada recall involving Electrical Devices Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) safety outlets sold at Home Hardware stores across Canada. These outlets have been recalled due to a potential fire hazard.

Regarding “Home Fire Safety Checks”

The Cobourg Fire Department urges residents to be cautious when approached by anyone offering unsolicited “home fire safety checks” or attempting to sell fire safety equipment.
The Fire Department has been made aware of unsettling incidents in which residents may have been coerced, pressured, or frightened by individuals posing as fire safety professionals.
