Cobourg, ON (March 2, 2020) – The Town of Cobourg will be hosting a Flood and Erosion Mitigation Symposium on Saturday, March 21st from 10-3 p.m. at the Cobourg Community Centre in an effort to educate and empower citizens on flooding and erosion mitigation strategies that can be proactively implemented. Everyone is welcome to attend.
“Flooding and erosion is something we face every year that can threaten properties and infrastructure within the Town of Cobourg,” said Shannon Murphy, Emergency Planner for the Town of Cobourg. “Last year many citizens expressed their concerns in respect to rising water levels, flooded properties and shoreline erosion and we hope to empower and educate those who may be affected by flooding.”
Led by the Town of Cobourg’s Emergency Planner, the symposium will involve a tradeshow, presentations and innovative product demonstrations on flood emergency management, flood preparedness and flood protection. Federal, provincial and municipal staff and representatives from several outside agencies will be in attendance to share information about flood preparation and erosion mitigation.
Whether affected by flooding directly or indirectly, all citizens across Northumberland County are encouraged to attend this free event to learn more about the roles and responsibilities of agencies involved in flood emergency management and what they can do to protect their property.
