Cobourg, ON (November 3, 2021) – During the Regular Council meeting on Monday, November 1, 2021, Municipal Council voted to proceed with the Town of Cobourg’s traditional Santa Claus Parade scheduled to take place on December 4, 2021, at 6 p.m.
On October 8, 2021, and in accordance with the Province of Ontario’s Reopening Ontario Act: A Flexible Response to COVID-19, 2020 O. reg. 364/20 and local public health guidelines, the Town of Cobourg’s Community Events Committee and the Cobourg Santa Claus Parade Planning Committee made the decision to cancel the Cobourg Santa Claus Parade for 2021.
On October 27, 2021, the Province of Ontario announced that the capacity limit was being removed for all organized outdoor events, including Remembrance Day ceremonies and Santa Claus Parades, and other sectors, such as fairs and festivals, outdoor areas of museums and zoos, and ski hills as well as other outdoor recreational amenities.
“We are very much looking forward to hosting our first-ever evening parade promising to bring a magical holiday atmosphere and, of course, incorporate our beautiful annual light display in Victoria Park, Rotary Harbourfront Park and the downtown area,” said Councillor Adam Bureau, Coordinator of Arts, Culture and Tourism for the Town of Cobourg. “I am really looking forward to seeing all the creative parade floats as we celebrate the holiday season!”
Santa Claus Parade Information
This year’s parade has a new date and time. Join us on Saturday, December 4, 2021, for the Town of Cobourg’s first-ever night parade from 6-7:30 p.m. beginning at the Cobourg Public Library (King Street West and William Street) and will move east along King Street, ending at Victoria Park.
Theme: Favourite Holiday Jingle and Light Show
Each year the Cobourg Santa Claus Parade Planning Committee encourages participants to design and decorate their float entry based on a festive theme. This year’s theme will focus on a Favourite Holiday Song and a Light Show that will showcase both a musical and lighting component adding even more festive spirit for Cobourg’s first night parade.
Judging will take place in the following categories: Best Commercial Float, Best Non-Commercial Float, Best Themed Float, Mayor’s Award and People’s Choice Award.
For those who cannot attend the event the parade in person the event will be LIVE streamed with commentary on COGECO’s YourTV Northumberland (Cable 10 / HD Cable 700).
Parade Registration Now Open!
The Town of Cobourg is now accepting registrations from community organizations, groups and businesses who want to be a part of the 2021 Cobourg Santa Claus Parade. Those interested are encouraged to review the rules and regulations and eligibility guidelines prior to submitting.
COVID-19 Safety Protocols and Guidance
The Local Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Natalie Bocking of the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit reminds residents to follow basic public health guidelines, including physical distancing, wearing a mask or face covering and staying home if you are sick. While outdoor events are a lower risk for the spread of COVID-19, everyone should continue to do their part to keep our community safe and healthy this holiday season.
