Cobourg, ON (January 18, 2021) – The Town of Cobourg and the Cobourg Police Service are working together to educate the community on the ‘Stay-At-Home-Order’ and the Provincial Emergency Declaration by taking a complaints-driven approach and launching a multi-tiered educational awareness campaign.
As part of the new COVID-19 ‘Stay-at-Home-Order’ and the Provincial Emergency Declaration, the Cobourg Police Service along with the Town of Cobourg’s Bylaw Enforcement Officers will be working closely together to ensure the community understands the latest restrictions and stays safe and healthy. The educational campaign focuses on Education, Compliance and lastly Enforcement and will be launched digitally across all online channels along with the launch of a new Enforcement Hotline.
“With the Stay-At-Home-Order announced by the Government of Ontario last week, we have been working closely with our local health unit and the Town of Cobourg to ensure the community stays safe and healthy,” says Chief Paul VandeGraaf, Cobourg Police Service. “Cobourg Police Service members will continue with regular patrols throughout the community, respond to calls as they come in, and focus on compliance and education with enforcement as a last resort. We encourage everyone to take the necessary precautions to protect yourself and others, if it’s not essential, please stay home.”
As of January 14, 2021 at 12:01 a.m., a 'Stay-at-Home' Order came into effect for all of Ontario. This means you must stay at home and only go out for necessities, such as:
Businesses must ensure that all employees work from home if they can. Do not travel outside your region or the province unless absolutely necessary.
Cobourg Police Service Special Constables, Uniform Officers and the Town of Cobourg’s Bylaw Enforcement Officers will continue community patrols and will respond to calls as they come in.
Officers will not be stopping people randomly.
Under the EMPCA (Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act) and the Re-Opening Ontario Act the fines are as follows:
“We each have a personal responsibility to limit our travel to essential reasons only to slow the spread of COVID-19 and try to keep our families and communities safe and support our hospitals and healthcare workers,” said Mayor John Henderson for the Town of Cobourg. “I want to thank our residents for abiding by these orders and our police service and bylaw officers for helping assist the community on how to do just that.”
