Cobourg, ON (February 18, 2020) – The Town of Cobourg and the Cobourg Heritage Advisory Committee were pleased to present the 2019 Cobourg Heritage Conservation Awards at the Committee of the Whole Meeting on Tuesday, February 18th during Canada’s Heritage Week celebrations.
The Cobourg Heritage Conservation Awards were established in 2010 in an effort to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of property owners and tenants who have undertaken significant restoration projects in accordance with applicable heritage district plans and regulations. This year marks the 10th year that the Town of Cobourg and the Cobourg Heritage Advisory Committee have held this award ceremony for the heritage community.
“The members of the Cobourg Heritage Advisory Committee are delighted to congratulate the nominees for the extraordinary work they have undertaken to preserve and enhance Cobourg’s built heritage through these two projects,” said Graham Andrews, Chair of the Heritage Advisory Committee. “As fellow residents of Cobourg we need to encourage this type of initiative so that future generations will be able to enjoy the beautiful town that means so much to us all.”
Cobourg Heritage staff reviewed all of the completed heritage permit applications over the past year and identified potential nominees for consideration. The following 2019 Cobourg Heritage Conservation Award recipients were selected by the committee for their commitment to the responsible stewardship of Cobourg’s built heritage:
1. 465 George Street (Verner and Barefoot)
2. 216 Church Street (Gissing)
3. Keith Colterman
"Heritage Week provides us with an opportunity to recognize and celebrate residents who invest in and who are passionate about the historical character of our beautiful town,” said Councillor Nicole Beatty, Coordinator of Planning and Development. “These porch renovations contribute to the beautification of both the home and the streetscape where they're situated."
