Cobourg, ON (January 24, 2022) – The Town of Cobourg is pleased to announce the appointment of Brian Geerts as the new Director of Community Services, effective February 7, 2022.
Brian Geerts joins the Town of Cobourg bringing more than a decade of experience managing parks and horticulture, recreation, facilities, and extensive operational experience as a public sector professional between the City of Cambridge and the City of Brantford collectively. His most recent position was with the City of Cambridge as the Acting Director Parks, Recreation and Culture.
“We are pleased to welcome Mr. Brian Geerts to the Town of Cobourg as the Director of Community Services,” said Tracey Vaughan, Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Cobourg. “Mr. Geerts has a deep understanding of parks and recreation and community programming, and brings to the role a passion for community engagement and development and enhancing business operations that will serve Cobourg well.”
Geerts will be responsible for the planning, development and implementation of programs and activities that support the community and priorities within the Town of Cobourg. Geerts exhibits a great understanding and passion for the environment, performance management, and community engagement through effective leadership.

Currently, Geerts is completing his Certified Municipal Officer (CMO) designation through the Association of Municipal Managers, Clerks and Treasurers of Ontario (AMCTO), has a Master of Public Administration, Ecosystem Management Technician Certification and is a certified Project Management Professional as well as other professional courses completed over the years.
Geerts will begin working on implementing the recommendations from the Service Level Delivery Review, Organizational Review and the 2019-2022 Strategic Plan. He will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team, Council, Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee members and community volunteers to deliver innovative, consistent, and high-quality customer service, community engagement and resource management.
