Community invited to assist in Mayor’s Cleanup Challenge
Cobourg, ON (April 14, 2023) – The Town of Cobourg would like to remind residents and visitors that King Street from Third Street to Division Street, as well as Second Street, will be closed on Sunday, April 16, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the Mayors’ Keep the County Clean Challenge.
Mayor Cleveland invites community members to meet at Victoria Hall, 55 King Street West, between 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. to pick up supplies, including gloves, pickers and garbage bags.
Volunteers are encouraged to register online at www.Cobourg.ca/cleanup. After completing the clean-up, please use this webpage to report back with where you left your filled bags or notify the Town of sharp or bulky items.
Clean-up areas on Sunday, April 16, 2023 include:
Downtown: One World will be working alongside Mayor Cleveland on Sunday, April 16, and will be focusing their efforts on cleaning up litter in Downtown Cobourg.
Waterfront: Town of Cobourg staff are partnering with A Greener Future to collect cigarette butts along the waterfront to prevent their dangerous chemical by-products from entering our water system.
For those collecting Cigarette Butts at the waterfront, when done collecting, participants should bring materials back to the Harbour Parking Lot at 103 Third Street where a waste bin will be located.
Peace Park: Sustainable Cobourg will be leading a group of volunteers to clean up Peace Park and the surrounding area on April 16 and welcome any community volunteers to join them.
Your Neighbourhood: The County challenge lasts all week, until Earth Day - April 22. Pick any area of Cobourg to help clean up and report back with where you left your bags. Those cleaning up from April 17 to 22 can pick up supplies at the Cobourg Community Centre (750 D'Arcy Street).
Parking: Residents are reminded there are two hours of free parking in all Town of Cobourg downtown municipal lots. Waterfront parking is not in effect until the May long weekend. To encourage all community members to get involved, the Second Street lot will be free all day on Sunday, April 16.
