Cobourg, ON (May 24, 2023) – The Town of Cobourg is pleased to announce the appointment of Deputy Mayor Nicole Beatty to the Ontario Small Urban Municipalities Executive Committee.
The Ontario Small Urban Municipalities (OSUM) is the small urban municipal voice of the Province. The purpose of the organization is to provide a forum for both elected and appointed municipal officials of small urban municipalities to exchange and receive information, to consider matters of common interest, and to take united action on issues of mutual interest to improve local government service in Ontario. OSUM is an integral part of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) and the board has ensured that matters which affect small urban communities are brought to the attention of the provincial and federal governments.
“I’m thrilled to have been appointed to the OSUM Executive Committee,” says Deputy Mayor Nicole Beatty. “I appreciate Council’s endorsement of my nomination and am proud to be serving alongside an amazing roster of elected officials from across the province. Eleven of us were acclaimed to the Executive Committee at the Annual General Meeting in April. My motivation to represent Cobourg at OSUM is to ensure small urban communities in Eastern Ontario have a voice as well as to connect, learn, advocate and network on behalf of municipalities as we face growth pressures, a housing and homelessness crisis and economic challenges. I’m also keen to showcase and celebrate the wonderful attributes and accomplishments of Cobourg all while gathering inspiration from likeminded waterfront and heritage communities.”
Deputy Mayor Beatty will represent Cobourg for the period of 2023-2025. For more information about OSUM, including their newsletter and executive minutes please visit https://www.osum.ca/ .
