The Town of Cobourg has an immediate opportunity for a full time Water Pollution Control Plant Operator.

Reporting to the Manager of Water Pollution Control, the WPCP Operator assists in the overall operation and maintenance of the Town’s two Wastewater Treatment Facilities, eight sanitary/storm pumping stations and a Sequence Batch Reactor. Both indoor and outdoor work is required. 

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Minimum 3-year post-secondary education, in a related field of study.
  • Experience in the fields of Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing, Microbiology, Chemistry and/or Environment Science is preferred.
  • A Class 4 Wastewater Treatment license and a Class 2 Wastewater Collection license preferred or must obtain within 5 years of hire.
  • Familiar with the requirements of ISO 14000, ISO 9000 and/or HACCP preferred.
  • Computer proficiency is essential.
  • Minimum Class G Drivers License with a demonstrated acceptable record is mandatory.


This is a full time position governed by the Collective Agreement with C.U.P.E Local 25 - 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday and involves rotating on-call duties to cover weekends. A full and competitive benefit package is included. Wage Scale - $21.97 – $29.48/hr (Depending on Qualifications)

Event Assistant – Summer Student


The Event Assistant will assist the Sport & Event Coordinator with the planning and execution of events at the Cobourg Community Centre.  The Event Assistant position will help the candidate gain valuable experience in event planning and execution, recreation administration, customer relations, time management, leadership, and communication.  The Event Assistant is expected to work a flexible 35 hour week on average, which will include evening/weekend shifts. Hours may increase during peak event dates.



-          Previous event planning/execution experience is an asset

-          Strong customer service, problem solving, communication (written & verbal) and organizational skills

-          Able to work well under pressure and handle stressful situations in a delicate manner

-          Able to work independently and as part of a team

-          Able to lift up to 20lbs and be on your feet for extended periods of time

-          Available to work evenings and weekends

-          Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office programs and website management

-          A post-secondary education in Event Planning, Facility Management or Sport Administration is an asset

-           All students must be currently enrolled in a secondary, or post-secondary institution or within six months of graduation and have reached the age of 15 and not yet reached the age of 25 upon commencement of employment or up to 29 years for persons with a disability, if disabled, within the meaning of s.10 of the Ontario Human Rights Code, R.S.O. 1990, c. H.19, as amended from time to time.
