The Town of Cobourg has an immediate opportunity for a Casual Administrative Assistant in the Public Work Division.

Reporting to the Director of Public Works, the Casual Administrative Assistant will be responsible for providing administrative support to various division managers, filing, preparing correspondence, processing accounts payable and receivable and responding to inquiries by phone and email.

 

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Post Secondary School Diploma in Business Administration or equivelant
  • Knowledge of accounting processes
  • Administrative experience
  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel
  • Superior customer service, communication and organizational skills.

 

This is a casual position governed by the Collective Agreement with C.U.P.E Local 25 - 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Wage Scale - $15.44/hr

EMERGENCY PLANNER – FIRE DEPARTMENT

 

Reporting to the Fire Chief, the Emergency Planner will be Responsible for the overall administration of the Community Emergency Management Program including the emergency response plan and support plans, the emergency operations center, staff training, public awareness, hazard identification and risk management, critical infrastructure inventory and public information/inquiry system.

The Emergency Planner is also responsible for site plan application review as a member of the Development Review Team, building plan review, preparation of fire department pre-incident plans and, review and approval of fire safety plans legislated by the Ontario Fire Code.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

   ·         Post-secondary education in emergency management and/or business continuity planning.

·         Community Emergency Management Coordinator as defined in the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act.

·         Knowledge of all applicable Federal and Provincial Statutes.

·         Preferred Ontario Building Code Act courses; Legal course as well as Fire Protection.

·         Strong leadership, public relations, communication and organization skills.

·         Valid G License.

  

This is a contract position, 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Wage Range for this position is $48,000 - $53,000 based on qualifications and experience.

Event Assistant – Summer Student

 

The Event Assistant will assist the Sport & Event Coordinator with the planning and execution of events at the Cobourg Community Centre.  The Event Assistant position will help the candidate gain valuable experience in event planning and execution, recreation administration, customer relations, time management, leadership, and communication.  The Event Assistant is expected to work a flexible 35 hour week on average, which will include evening/weekend shifts. Hours may increase during peak event dates.

 

Qualifications

-          Previous event planning/execution experience is an asset

-          Strong customer service, problem solving, communication (written & verbal) and organizational skills

-          Able to work well under pressure and handle stressful situations in a delicate manner

-          Able to work independently and as part of a team

-          Able to lift up to 20lbs and be on your feet for extended periods of time

-          Available to work evenings and weekends

-          Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office programs and website management

-          A post-secondary education in Event Planning, Facility Management or Sport Administration is an asset

-           All students must be currently enrolled in a secondary, or post-secondary institution or within six months of graduation and have reached the age of 15 and not yet reached the age of 25 upon commencement of employment or up to 29 years for persons with a disability, if disabled, within the meaning of s.10 of the Ontario Human Rights Code, R.S.O. 1990, c. H.19, as amended from time to time.

-          Proof of enrolment must be provided to the employer

-          Students must be residents of Ontario

-          Students must be eligible to work in Canada

 

This is position is subject to approved funding from the Ontario Government Summer Experience Program.
