VOLUNTEER FIRE FIGHTER

 

Reporting to the Fire Chief the successful applicant(s) will work under the supervision of senior officers to combat fires, perform rescue duties, administer first aid,  respond to hazardous materials incidents and operate and maintain fire fighting apparatus and equipment.

 

Required Qualifications:

·         Legally entitled to work in Canada

·         Ability to understand and communicate in English

·         Minimum Grade 12 Secondary School Diploma or Equivalent.

·         DZ license preferred with demonstrated satisfactory record

·         Valid Standard First Aid and “Basic Rescuer” CPR (Level C) certificates preferred.

·         Able to successfully complete all required fitness assessments, agility tests, and medical  

evaluations.

·         Provide a drivers abstract and criminal information check upon a conditional offer of employment.

 

Preference will be given to applicants living and working within 5 kilometers of the Cobourg fire hall and who have a letter from their employer permitting them to attend calls during working hours.

Event Assistant – Summer Student

 

The Event Assistant will assist the Sport & Event Coordinator with the planning and execution of events at the Cobourg Community Centre.  The Event Assistant position will help the candidate gain valuable experience in event planning and execution, recreation administration, customer relations, time management, leadership, and communication.  The Event Assistant is expected to work a flexible 35 hour week on average, which will include evening/weekend shifts. Hours may increase during peak event dates.

 

Qualifications

-          Previous event planning/execution experience is an asset

-          Strong customer service, problem solving, communication (written & verbal) and organizational skills

-          Able to work well under pressure and handle stressful situations in a delicate manner

-          Able to work independently and as part of a team

-          Able to lift up to 20lbs and be on your feet for extended periods of time

-          Available to work evenings and weekends

-          Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office programs and website management

-          A post-secondary education in Event Planning, Facility Management or Sport Administration is an asset

-           All students must be currently enrolled in a secondary, or post-secondary institution or within six months of graduation and have reached the age of 15 and not yet reached the age of 25 upon commencement of employment or up to 29 years for persons with a disability, if disabled, within the meaning of s.10 of the Ontario Human Rights Code, R.S.O. 1990, c. H.19, as amended from time to time.

-          Proof of enrolment must be provided to the employer

-          Students must be residents of Ontario

-          Students must be eligible to work in Canada

 

This is position is subject to approved funding from the Ontario Government Summer Experience Program.
