Plaques Interpreting Heritage Sites

Within Cobourg, there are a number of plaques on properties that help interpret our local heritage resources. Cobourg designation plaques are placed on individually designated properties to celebrate their importance. Please contact Heritage Staff for information on the Town's Heritage Plaque program.

A more in-depth story of Cobourg's heritage will be provided around town through the Cobourg Remembered Interpretive Plaques which are currently being developed by the Cobourg Art In Public Spaces Committee.

Learning about Historic Cobourg

A number of excellent books have been written focusing on the history of our community.

Many of our street names honour people important in the development of Cobourg. Discover more about the history of your street name by viewing our database of existing and future street names. Future street names include past mayors, fallen veterans, and other individuals impotant to the history of Cobourg. If you would like to have any names considered for future street names, please contact staff.

Heritage Districts are Special Places

Property owners in heritage conservation districts are kept abreast of district news and useful information through Cobourg Heritage Matters Newsletter .

Cobourg is also involved in installing heritage district street signs to acknowledge the special nature of our heritage areas. These include heritage street name signage and heritage district entry signage. This 3-year signage project is a joint venture between the town and the Cobourg ACO branch.

Federal Recognition of Local Heritage

Local heritage properties can also be listed on the Canadian Register of Historic Places .

Acknowledging a job well done!

Cobourg acknowledges individuals and organizations when they have done commendable work in the area of heritage conservation. Look for future details on our Cobourg Heritage Awards celebrations which will be an annual celebration of the best heritage projects completed over the last two years.
