The animal control by-laws regulate dogs and cats in the Town of Cobourg.
Every dog in Cobourg requires a current dog licence (also known as a dog tag) each year. You can obtain your dog tag at the Municipal Office after you have filled out the Dog Tag Form.
You can be fined $75 for not having a dog licence.
For information on purchasing a dog tag, visit the Animal Licenses.
The Town of Cobourg is partnered with the Municipality of Port Hope, the Township of Alnwick/Haldimand and the Township of Hamilton to provide animal control services. A member from each municipal Council sits on the Board. The Board oversees the operation of the Shelter of Hope.

The Shelter of Hope is committed to the care and well-being of all animals in its mandate. They catch lost animals and arrange for pet adoptions.
If the Shelter of Hope finds and captures your lost pet, you will have to pay a $30 Impound Fee and $15/night Board Fee (plus HST) to get your animal released.
The Shelter of Hope is located at 2363 Theatre Road South (between Hwy 2 and Telephone Road).
Dogs with current Town of Cobourg dog tags can visit the off-leash Cobourg Dog Park.
